PUF Panel Quality — Where We Don't Move to Win the Order

PUF panel quality is four numbers a buyer can check at the gate — sheet, coating, core, width — and one decision a factory makes: whether to trim them.

PUF panel quality comes down to a handful of numbers that can be checked when the truck arrives, and one decision that cannot: whether the factory changed those numbers to land the order. Our home page says where we stand in one line — we don't trim panel quality to win the order — and this article is about what that means in practice. The four numbers sit under every price on the live factory price board; the price they sat under on 23 September 2026, for the 50 mm roof panel with 0.5 / 0.3 mm sheets, was ₹ 1,269 per sqm at the 3,000 sqm slab, ex-factory Kathua, GST and freight extra (factory prices on 23 Sep 2026).

Why a specification gets trimmed

Trimming a specification saves very little on the invoice but costs the panel its quality and its life. A thinner coat or a lighter core doesn't show on delivery day — it shows years later, on the roof. That is the whole temptation: the two savings that matter most are the two the buyer cannot see at the gate without measuring, and the roof will not complain for a few summers. So we don't trim, for any order of any size. Now and then that costs us one.

How to identify good PUF panel: the four numbers

What to checkHowOurs, every roof and wall panel, 25 Sep 2026
Sheet thickness, each facemicrometer; ask for mm nominal TCT per face0.5 or 0.3 mm, stated per face
Coatingcoating gauge; ask uni- or multi-coat and microns top and back, in writingmulti-coat, 20 µ top + primer, 10 µ back, IS 15965 / ISO 16163
Core densitycut and weigh a sample; ask for kg/m³PUF 40 kg/m³

Every one of those is on the product page with the price, so the number on the quote and the number on the panel can be the same number. The one question we suggest putting to any supplier, ourselves included: is the sheet uni-coat or multi-coat? Get the answer in writing — coating microns on the quote.

Good quality PUF panel is the same panel at every order size

The specification does not change with the slab. A 750 sqm trial order and a 3,000 sqm order get the same sheet, the same coat, the same core; the rate differs, the panel does not.

Nor does it change with the buyer. If you need a supplier who'll meet a price by changing the panel, we are not the right fit, and we would rather say so now than after your order.

PUF panel quality check at the gate

Four tools, ten minutes: a micrometer on a cut edge for the sheet, a coating gauge on the face and the back, a tape on the cover width, and a cut sample weighed for the core. Check them against the product page, which is the specification the rate was published against.

What "any order of any size" means

The sentence on our home page has a clause that matters: for any order of any size. A 750 sqm trial order and a 3,000 sqm order get the same panel; so does the order that arrives with a competing quotation in hand and asks what can be done about the price. What can be done is a bigger slab of the same panel, at the published rate. What cannot is a lighter core or a thinner coat at the same price, because that panel would carry our specification on the invoice and something else on the roof.

Now and then that costs us an order. The home page says so. The alternative is a specification that means one thing on the page and another on the truck, and a buyer who finds out in the third summer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check PUF panel quality?
Measure sheet thickness (mm TCT, each face), coating (microns, top and back), core density (kg/m³) and chargeable width, and compare each with the specification on the quote.

What makes a good quality PUF panel?
Fully formed foam of the stated density, sheet of the stated thickness on each face, a multi-coat finish of the stated microns, bonded together. All four are numbers; ask for them.

Does a cheaper PUF panel have a thinner coat?
A thinner coat or a lighter core is where a specification is usually trimmed, and neither shows on delivery day. Ask for the microns and the density in writing, whatever the price.

Is the specification the same for a small order?
Yes. Every slab gets the same panel; only the rate per sqm differs.
