Ask ten people on a site what PUF panel thickness to use and you will get ten confident answers. The number itself is simple: it is the depth of the foam between the two steel sheets, in millimetres. On 23 September 2026 our range ran from 30 mm to 100 mm, and at the 3,000 sqm slab the price ran with it, from ₹ 1,111 per sqm for a 30 mm roof panel to ₹ 1,744 per sqm for a 100 mm wall panel, ex-factory Kathua, GST and freight extra (factory prices on 23 Sep 2026). Today's figures are on the live factory price board.
What thickness actually changes
Three things, and only three.
Insulation. The foam does the insulating. More foam, more resistance to heat crossing the panel. That is the whole reason a freezer wall is thicker than a poultry-shed roof. Every rigid PU core has much the same k-value, so thickness, not a "better" foam, decides the U-value; the k-value and U-value table gives it for each thickness.
Stiffness. A thicker panel is a deeper beam. It spans further between purlins or bears more before it deflects. The sheets carry the load, but the foam holds them apart, and the further apart they are the stiffer the panel.
Money and trucks. Each extra millimetre is foam you pay for and space it takes on a truck. A full 32 ft container load of roof panel is about 1,190 sqm at 30 mm and about 450 sqm at 100 mm, at 32 ft panel length. Freight is charged per truck, so the thick panel pays more freight per sqm as well as more per sqm at the gate.
What thickness does not change: the sheets, the core density, the coating, the width, the colour. Every panel in the table below has a 40 kg/m³ PUF core, Galvalume AZ70/PPGL sheets with a multi-coat finish of 20 µ primer and top coat and 10 µ back coat to IS 15965 / ISO 16163, and RAL9002 Off-White colour.

Read the price column down and one thing stands out: the steps are not equal. On 23 Sep 2026, going from 30 to 50 mm on a roof panel cost ₹ 158 per sqm; from 50 to 80 mm, ₹ 290; from 80 to 100 mm, ₹ 177. Foam is priced by the millimetre, but the sheet is the same on every one, so the thin panel carries proportionally more sheet in its price.
Which PUF panel thickness, then
The right answer comes from the building, not from a rule of thumb, and the person to give it is the designer or refrigeration engineer who knows the inside temperature, the climate and the span. What a buyer can do is understand what the designer is trading:
- The thin end, 30 and 40 mm, is a roof or wall that needs to keep sun and rain out and take the edge off the heat. Roof panels start at 30 mm; wall panels at 40 mm.
- The middle, 50 and 60 mm, is where most sheds, warehouses and site buildings sit. The 50 mm roof panel is the one most people mean when they say "PUF panel".
- The thick end, 80 and 100 mm, is for a box that has to hold a temperature against the outside: chillers, freezers, process rooms.
PUF panel thickness for cold storage
Cold-storage buyers ask this most. Our thickest panels on 23 Sep 2026 were the 80 mm and 100 mm wall and roof panels. Moving a wall from 80 to 100 mm cost ₹ 175 per sqm that day at the 3,000 sqm slab. The thickness the chamber needs is the designer's call from the storage temperature and the refrigeration design; the panel's job is to match it.
Frequently asked questions
Which PUF panel thickness is used for a normal warehouse?
Thickness is set by the designer from the use of the building. In our range the 50 mm roof panel and the 50 or 60 mm wall panel sit in the middle; on 23 Sep 2026 the 50 mm roof panel with 0.5 / 0.3 mm sheets was ₹ 1,269 per sqm at the 3,000 sqm slab, ex-factory Kathua, GST and freight extra.
Does a thicker PUF panel have thicker sheets?
No. Sheet thickness is a separate choice: 0.5 or 0.3 mm on each face, at every panel thickness.
Does thickness change the width of the panel?
No. Roof panels bill on a 1.00 m chargeable width and wall panels on 1.15 m, at every thickness.
Is there a PUF panel thicker than 100 mm?
Not in our range as of 25 Sep 2026. The live board lists every panel on offer.
