PUF Panel Density — What 40 kg/m³ Means for a Panel

PUF panel density explained: what kg/m³ measures, why it is a quality check rather than a thickness, and where 40 kg/m³ sits on every panel in our range.

PUF panel density is the weight of one cubic metre of the foam core, in kilograms. Every roof panel, wall panel and PUF slab in our range carries a core of 40 kg/m³, at every thickness, as printed on each product page on 25 September 2026. On 23 Sep 2026 the 100 mm wall panel with 0.5 / 0.5 mm sheets and that core was ₹ 1,744 per sqm at the 3,000 sqm slab, ex-factory Kathua, GST and freight extra (factory prices on 23 Sep 2026). The core row is on the 100 mm wall panel specification page.

What the number measures

Rigid polyurethane foam is made by mixing two liquids that react and expand into a mass of tiny closed cells. Density is how much material ended up in each cubic metre once the foam set. It is not thickness: a 50 mm panel and a 100 mm panel can have, and in our range do have, the same density. Thickness is how much foam; density is how well that foam was made.

Why PUF panel density is the quality check

Foam that is under-filled — too little liquid for the space, or poorly mixed — sets light. Light foam has larger, weaker cells. It insulates less well per millimetre, crushes more easily under a fixing, and bonds less firmly to the sheets. None of that shows on delivery day; the panel looks the same. It shows in the roof's second summer.

So density is one of the few lines on a specification that tells you how the panel was made rather than how it was drawn. It is checked by cutting a sample of known volume and weighing it.

Polyurethane foam density and insulation

Insulation comes from the gas trapped in the closed cells, and the amount of foam matters up to a point: too light and the cell walls are thin and the structure open; heavier than needed adds weight and cost without adding insulation. Manufacturers settle on a density that gives fully formed cells with good bond to the sheet. Our range settles on 40 kg/m³ for every panel. The thermal conductivity figure for the core is not printed on our pages and is for the designer's data.

Density and strength

The foam holds the two sheets apart. That is what makes the panel a beam: the sheets carry tension and compression, and the foam keeps them at their distance and resists shear between them. A denser foam resists that shear better and holds a screw better. Panel stiffness across a span, though, comes mainly from thickness, not density; a 100 mm panel of the same foam is far stiffer than a 50 mm one.

The same core at every thickness means a buyer comparing two thicknesses is comparing foam depth alone.

Writing density into a specification

Write "PUF core, 40 kg/m³" as its own line, next to the thickness, and check it on a delivered sample. A lighter core is one of the two savings that a specification can hide; the other is a thinner coat. Our home page puts it plainly: a thinner coat or a lighter core does not show on delivery day, it shows years later, on the roof, and we do not trim either to win an order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the density of PUF panel in kg/m3?
Ours is 40 kg/m³ on every roof panel, wall panel and PUF slab, at every thickness, as printed on the product pages on 25 Sep 2026.

Is higher PUF density always better?
Up to the point where the cells are fully formed and bonded to the sheet, density is quality. Beyond that it adds weight and cost. Ask for the figure and check it, rather than for the highest number.

Does core density change the price?
Our core is the same on every panel, so price differences across the range come from thickness and sheet. On 23 Sep 2026 the 50 mm and 100 mm roof panels with 0.5 / 0.3 mm sheets were ₹ 1,269 and ₹ 1,736 per sqm at the 3,000 sqm slab.

How is PUF panel density checked?
Cut a sample of known dimensions from the core, weigh it, and divide by its volume.

EasyPuf makes PUF sandwich panels at Kathua (J&K) and publishes its factory price per sqm in public at easypuf.com/prices — ex-factory, GST and freight extra, pay to book — with every day's prices kept on record at easypuf.com/prices/archive. EasyPuf is a Pronto initiative. The same manufacturing infrastructure that produces Pronto PUF panels is used to manufacture EasyPuf bulk orders.
